At Comic Con Amsterdam 2019 I ran into Portuguese comic book artist Nuno Plati, who has done plenty of work for Marvel Comics in the past. He drew Avengers: Fairy Tales, Marvel Girl and The Amazing Spider-Man. Here’s a short interview with Nuno about working on Spidey.
In What If #105 (feb 1998) Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz explore a possible future in which Peter Parker and Mary Jane have a daughter named May. What if she has special powers, just l like her father Spider-Man? This is the origin of Spider-Girl!
I am catching up on my reading of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, written by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Adam Kubert.
And I just felt like sharing this great cover from Volume 1.
My buddy Melvin from @dirtees wanted to know who my favorite X-Man is. Well, I’ve always liked #rogue a lot.
Because:
1: She started out as a bad guy, er… bad girl and redeemed herself and became a hero.
2. She has great powers.
3. She looks great and has a sexy accent.
4. She kicked Captain Marvel’s ass. And if one holier than thou character should get her ass kicked every once in a while, it’s Carol Danvers.
Having said that, I also love X-Men: Storm, Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. If you’d put a gun to my head and make me choose between these mutants, I’d say Wolverine is my all time favorite. But since I don’t think anyone finds this matter important enough to threaten me with a gun, you’ll have to accept the answer that I love all four of the mentioned characters.
Reading Essential Spider-Woman Vol. 2 I came across a couple of wonderful comic book covers by Steve Leialoha, Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Dave Cockrum.
May 4th it’s time for the yearly event Free Comic Book Day.
In the Netherlands some comic book shops participate, but it’s not as big as in the USA. In the past Dutch publishers tried to set up a Dutch variant of FCBD but that wasn’t a big success. Nowadays, some shops give away free American comics. I got mine early this year and love to give you a preview of the comics that are available on Free Comic Book Day 2019. In total 51 comics are available, I show you about a dozen.
Check out the YouTube-Channel of FCBD.
After seeing Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman in action in an issue of New Avengers, drawn by Daniel Acuña, I became interested in this character.
Currently I’m reading Essential Spider-Woman Vol. 2 to get to know this interesting superhero. I must admit, the stories by writer Chris Claremont and artist Steve Leialoha are great.
Check out my other Spider-Woman vlog here.
Avengers: Endgame is the best cinematic experience I’ve had in a long time. Well, ever since I saw Avengers: Infinity War to be exact.
Here’s a short review about this wonderful ending to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Right now, I’m a very happy comic book reader because I finally got my hands on a copy of GIANT SIZE X-MEN #1. I have wanted to read this historic comic from 1975 for years because I am a big fan of Chris Claremont’s run of the X-Men.
And the team that was introduced in this Giant Size X-Men is my favorite team of the X-Men. Granted, this is the genesis of that team: Kitty Pryde and Rogue would join the ranks of the X-Men later on. However, I have always wanted to know how Len Wein and Dave Cockrum practically rebooted the X-Men franchise with this comic. And thanks to a True Believers reprint of this story, I was able to finally read it.
