Just like Bill Clinton

Friday Linda and I visited the café Het Papeneiland for a nice cup of coffee. It is the same café Bill Clinton went to when he visited Amsterdam a few years ago. But for us it’s just a nice, quiet café around the corner.

This great photograph from the past hangs on one of the walls in Het Papeneiland. Old Skool street view.

This is the view from where I was sitting. While I lazily sipped my coffee a jogger raced on the bridge.

Kamikazi pilots

In the city I either travel by tram or bus but mostly by foot. I love walking through Amsterdam. It’s a great city to walk through. Besides, riding your bike here is kinda like being a kamikaze pilot.

Ever-changing painting

Since Linda and I moved in our current appartment two years ago, I love watching the sky. It’s an ever-changing painting that keeps me fascinated. Especially in early mornings or on cloudy days. In the house we lived before this one, we had the curtains closed most of the time because looking out the window you’d look straight into the homes of the neighbors living opposite from us. In the new house, we can look out either at the park at the front or the schoolyard at the back and the sky, which makes me a lot happier.

Happy sign

I really like the sign on the door of the Bakkerswinkel at the Westergasfabriek. It just looks so friendly and that’s makes me happy.

Alien creature

Actually, this is a turnip. But I think it looks kinda scary. It could be alien being, with little tentacles that attach to your face before implanting it’s eggs or something. Also, I have no idea how to prepare one of these for consumption. But then, I never was a Jamie Oliver.

I never go to church… but I pass them every day

Noorderkerk. Amsterdam is filled with churches. Well, not filled maybe, since there is plenty of room for other kinds of buildings, but there are plenty of churches and mosks around here. Personally I’d rather see them used for something more relevant than worship a fictional deity but that’s just me. So, even though de Nooderkerk is not far from my home, I’ve never ventured inside.

Enough reading material?

I think these people have enough reading material for a while. I do love a big bookcase filled with stories, knowlegde and adventure.

Watch out!

Sunday my girlfriend and I took a stroll in the Jordaan in Amsterdam. We met this group of gulls busy eating some leftovers. It’s always a bit tricky to walk under these creatures, since you never know when a bombardment of bird shit drops on your head.

Lelijk
