Under the freeway

This is just around the corner from that ‘lovely hotel’ of the last post. It doesn’t look like a cosy spot to hang out at night.

Smart cookie

Sunday, Vertigo, 1:00 pm
Most of the time you get a cookie with your tea or coffee. When you’re lucky it’s baked in this century. If you’re very lucky, you get chocolate instead of a stale cookie. Sometimes, the cookie is perfect though. Can’t remember how this one tasted, but I do remember the lively conversation I had with Liselotte in Vertigo when this shot was made. Liselotte is working on a book that’s coming out this April. Exciting stuff.

The Jolly Boys

I took this picture while taking a stroll through downtown Amsterdam. The Jolly Boys were supposed to perform in the Melkweg in December, but couldn’t travel due to heavy snowfall. Al that remains of the non-performance are a couple of old bills announcing an event that never took place.

Cartoon jeep

Train station Hilversum Noord, 4:20 pm
While I was waiting for my train back to Amsterdam, a freight train with some twenty jeeps passed by. Because they moved too fast for my little camera, they kind of look like cartoon jeeps in motion.

Utrecht @ dusk

Oudegracht, 5:00 pm
While I was on my way to an appointment with cartoonist Argibald, I took this shot of the city center of Utrecht. I interviewed Argibald for about two hours about his work. The article will be published in Het Parool next week.
