Waar denk jij aan als je dit plaatje ziet?

Prachtig pand
Wachtend op de tram op het Leidseplein schiet ik snel een plaatje van de Stadsschouwburg. Wat een prachtig gebouw is dat toch. Het geeft het plein allure en doet me terugdenken aan vervlogen tijden die ik zelf niet meemaakte. Als het heel rustig is op het plein, vroeg in de ochtend bijvoorbeeld, en je staart heel lang naar de schouwburg, dan kun je in de verte nog paard en wagen over de kinderkoppen horen rijden.
Vrijdag was ik op het Binnenhof in Den Haag. Het hart van de Nederlandse democratie, of het hart van de farce die democratie heet. Het is maar net hoe je het wil bekijken. Als ik die kerk zo zie, midden op het Binnenhof, begrijp ik waarom het CDA zo graag aan de macht wil zijn. Een kerk midden in het hart van de democratie. Zijn kerk en staat in Nederland eigenlijk wel gescheiden?
Let ook op het ijscokarretje vol Italiaans ijs. Zou Wilders dat wel goed vinden, ijs van allochtone afkomst? Of is het oké zolang er geen Marokkaanse smaken verkocht worden?
Veel toeristen, maar geen politicus te bekennen…
Wel zag ik Thijs van den Brink nog lopen. Je weet wel: die EO-presentator die altijd kijkt als een knaagdier dat moeite heeft met poepen.

A dark and gloomy place
To me, the newly restored City movie theatre seems to be a dark and gloomy place. When you pass by it, from the front, it doesn’t look inviting at all. There are no posters on the wall, so to find out what they are showing, you have to actually enter the lion’s den.

While I am waiting for the tram to arrive I take this picture of the majestic Hirsch & Cie building. Next to the Stadsschouwburg and The Americain hotel, this building gives the square the grandeur it needs.
This will be the last time going to work for over a week: I am taking some time off from the VARA to work on some writing projects and meet up with a couple of friends. And, since spring started, I think I am going to enjoy a few walks in the sun as well.
